Thank you so much for your prayerful and financial support of this ministry. Without your help, we could not reach the homeless with the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.
If you have any questions concerning the Rescue Mission, please don't hesitate to contact me either by phone, mail or email. Plus, if we can help your ministry through this vital resource, please let me know.
Sincerely yours,
Pastor Bruce Engelman

Hi, my name is Trinidad Hurtado. Let me introduce myself and tell you how God brought me, through some events in my life, to this area of service. In the past, I didn’t realize that God was training me for the work He would later have me do. I ran from God. You see, many people on the streets are people who never realize the need to stop running. My own experience has been used by God to help me be a help to so many homeless.
People often ask, "What is different about The Baptist Rescue Mission from other rescue missions?"
This is a very good question. I will address it by pointing out five areas of difference that a person will face when coming to The Baptist Rescue Mission. You must have a clear testimony of your salvation - This gives me an opportunity to sit down with each individual and present the gospel.
A person can’t serve God with all of his heart if he isn’t even sure that he’s going to heaven. By presenting the gospel, God has allowed me the privilege of seeing many souls saved! This is only the first aspect of The Baptist Rescue Mission.
Many people know the right answers concerning salvation and they may try to fake a profession. If this happens, we haven’t failed; we’ve only begun the process of letting them know what the Bible says about being saved. In time, many learn about the saving knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and then receive Christ. People on the streets have already heard about many plans of salvation, but Christ is the only way, the only truth and the only life. We do our best to present that clearly to each person who comes. You must agree to attend Church services at Baptist Temple, including Sunday morning, Sunday evening, Wednesday evening services and Thursday night church-wide soul winning. The only exception to this is a work schedule that prevents attendance. The presence of each person is also required at all revival meetings and conferences of the church and Saturday night services held on the Mission property. While unforeseen work may hinder attendance at some of our scheduled services, no person is allowed to get a job that will hinder their faithfulness to either service held on Sunday. This is because we’re a local church ministry and we feel a vital part of serving the Lord faithfully involves being an active member of a local church.
We not only help people at the mission find a job but we also make sure they have transportation to and from work. This allows them to say they have transportation. It also allows us to initiate a measure of accountability for them. Those without transportation must rely on the day-labor halls or a city bus but we have learned that both of those means are non-productive. Each time a person gets paid, we sit down together and work through a budget form with him. The budget form shows income, expenses, daily allowances and savings. It’s a process that teaches each person to be accountable with all finances. As a result of this process, it’s not usually too long before the participants financially establish themselves! One of our goals is to get them off the streets and back into a meaningful role in the church, the society and the family. Teaching them to save money is a real benefit for these people. First we encourage them to save enough money to get a vehicle. Secondly, we encourage them to save enough money for a down payment or a deposit on a place to stay.
Our primary focus is to win them to Christ and make disciples of them. Part of that goal also involves teaching them survival skills. By the time they’re ready to graduate from The Baptist Rescue Mission, our desire is for them to also have the following:
…a place to live
…a car to drive
…good financial habits
…a settled salvation
…a church family that they have grown to know and love
There are a lot of rescue missions out there. How many of them have a focus like the Baptist Rescue Mission?
Wouldn’t you like to have a part in this Christ-honoring set of goals? Whether or not you can take us on for support as a home missionary project through your church, you can still pray for us. Your support is appreciated.
